Stud Calculation Formula
Studs = (Wall Length in Inches / Spacing) + 1
Add 1 for the end stud since the formula gives you the number of spaces. For example, a 10-foot wall (120 inches) at 16" O.C. = (120 / 16) + 1 = 8.5, rounded up to 9 studs.
Board Feet Formula
Board Feet = (Thickness x Width x Length) / 12
Board feet is a standard unit for measuring lumber volume. One board foot = 144 cubic inches (1" x 12" x 12" or equivalent).

Wall Plate Requirements
Standard wall framing requires three horizontal plates:
- Bottom (Sill) Plate: 1 plate, same length as wall
- Top Plates: 2 plates (double top plate for load transfer)
- Total: 3x wall length in linear feet of plate material
